The order of words
There’s a saying in journalism: “DOG BITES MAN” isn’t a story, but “MAN BITES DOG” is!
These two sentences use the same words, but their meanings are very different because of the word order. The order of words in a sentence can change its meaning completely.
In English, we usually use a certain order for words to make our sentences clear. Here is the basic pattern we follow:
